GENERAL METHOD: A mixture of 1,4-benzodioxane (0.5 mmol), iodine pentoxide (334 mg, 1.0 mmol) and potassium bromide (148 mg, 1.25 mmol) was dissolved in 2 mL of water. The reaction was stirred at room temperature until completion. Upon completion of the reaction, the mixture was extracted with ethyl acetate and the extract was subsequently concentrated under reduced pressure. Finally, the mixture was purified by fast column chromatography (silica gel) to afford 6,7-dibromo-2,3-dihydrobenzo[b][1,4]dioxohexene. | [References]
