General procedure for the synthesis of ethyl 2-amino-5-methylbenzoate (compound of formula VII) from 2-amino-5-methylbenzoic acid: following the method reported by SP Acharya and JB Hynes in Journal of Heterocyclic Chemistry (1975,12,1283), the 2-amino-5-methyl benzoic acid was reacted with ethanol catalyzed by HCl gas to obtain the target product. Yield: 80%. The product was a white solid with mass spectrum (ISP) m/z 178 (M-H). | [References]
