定義
本品は、ニオイテンジクアオイ Perlargonium graveolens の花から得られる精油である。
解説
ゲラニウム油ともいう．フウロソウ科のPelargonium roseumの葉を蒸留すると得られる．無色ないし黃緑色の液體．d150.880～0.907．nD201.462～1.472．北アフリカ、フランス領(lǐng)レユニオン島、南アフリカ、マダガスカル、スペイン、フランス、イタリアなど、および日本で栽培されるフウロソウ科ニオイテンジクアオイ（大葉ゼラニウム）の葉、小枝を水蒸気蒸留すると収油率0.15～0.3％で得られる精油。ゲラニウム油ともいう。各地で生産される精油は、その植物起源が明確でないものが多いので、産地によってその性狀がいくぶん異なっている。ゼラニウム油の成分はゲラニオール、シトロネロール、ロジノールなどが60～70％含有されており、これらのギ酸エステルも存在している。ローズ油に似た特有の香気を有し、高級調(diào)合香料として重要である。一般香粧品、せっけん香料、ロジノールの製造原料として用いられている。

化學(xué)的特性
Geranium oil is obtained by steam distillation of the flowering herb Pelargoniumgraveolens
L.Hér. ex Aiton, PelargoniumroseumWilldenow, and other nondefined
hybrids that have developed into different ecotypes in different geographical
regions. The oil is an amber to greenish-yellow liquid with the characteristic
rose-like odor of the plant.
Geranium oil is one of themost important natural rawmaterials in the fragrance
industry. It shows a broad variety of application possibilities.
天然物の起源
Found in the leaves and stems of Pelargonium roseum wild and allied sorts (P. graveolens Ait and P. graveolens χ P. terebinthaceum) (Fam.: Geraniaceae).
使用
geranium oil (Pelargonium sp.) is refreshing, anti-irritant, mildly G tonic, and astringent. Although good for all skin types, it is particularly beneficial for oily and acne skins, and to those with inflammatory tendencies. The cell-regenerating activities claimed for geranium would also make it useful for aged skin. Although the many varieties of geranium-including wild geranium and english geranium-all belong to the same botanical family, their uses may differ. geranium oil is obtained by steam distillation from the entire plant, and is widely used in perfumery and cosmetics.
