Its utility expanded significantly with the development of the GAL4/UAS binary expression system, widely adopted in *Drosophila* research to spatially and temporally control gene expression. In this system, GAL4 is expressed in specific tissues or cells, activating UAS-linked genes of interest.

GAL4 antibodies are typically raised in hosts like mice, rabbits, or goats, targeting epitopes in the GAL4 DNA-binding domain or activation domain. These antibodies enable researchers to validate GAL4 expression patterns via techniques such as Western blotting, immunohistochemistry, or immunofluorescence, ensuring precise experimental design in studies of gene function, tissue development, or neural circuits.
