2.5.2. Double Wittig
General procedure: An oven-dried reaction tube equipped with a magnetic stirrer barwas charged with a mixture of dialdehyde (1.3 mmol), benzyltriphenylphosphonium bromide (2.2 mmol), [PAIM][NTf2] (4 mmol)and [BMIM][PF6] (7 mL). The reaction mixture was stirred and heatedat 60-70 °C under a nitrogen atmosphere for 7-8 h. After completion(TLC monitoring) the crude reaction mixture was extracted 3 times with hexane/EtOAc (80:20), dried (magnesium sulfate), and the solvent was removed under vacuum to furnish the crude product which was then purified by flash column chromatography with hexane/ethyl acetate (80:20).
