GENERAL METHODS: The substrate (1 mmol, CAS: 62673-13-6) was mixed with ionic liquid [Dsim]HSO4 (6.5 mg, ~0.02 mmol) in methanol (2 mL) and the reaction was stirred at room temperature. The reaction process was monitored by thin layer chromatography (TLC). After completion of the reaction, the solvent was removed by evaporation and water (1 mL) was added to the residue with vigorous stirring. The almost pure o-nitrobenzyl alcohol product was obtained by decantation separation. The structure of the product was characterized by infrared spectroscopy (IR) and nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR) data. The ionic liquid was recovered for reuse after vacuum drying at 65 °C to remove water. | [storage]
